Mission Statement
Mended Mirrors strives to provide
treatment and support to those with negative self-image to aid in the
prevention of other harmful physical and emotional conditions so that they can
learn to live a life of happiness and fulfillment by loving themselves
and others.

•Create a group environment that supports communication of uplifting
talk and thoughts
•Inspire outward thinking and compassion

Body Image Statistics for Adolescents
•Nationally,
body image is the top
ranking issue of concern for 15-19 year olds.
•More
than 90% of girls 15-17 want to change at least one aspect of their physical
appearance, with body weight ranking the highest.
•Nearly
25% of girls age 15-17 would consider undergoing plastic surgery.
•Up
to 12% of teen boys are using unproven supplements and/or steroids.
•90%
of 12-17 year old females are on a diet. The average dieting age is 8.
•50%
of 9-10 year olds have already tried to lose weight and say it makes them feel
better.
•80%
of children at the age of 10 have a fear of becoming “fat.” Most admitted that
they are more afraid of becoming fat than they are of nuclear war, cancer, or
losing their parents.

Eating Disorder Statistics
•Approximately
5% of adolescent and adult women and 1% of men have anorexia nervosa, bulimia
nervosa, or binge eating disorder.
•Eating
disorders have the HIGHEST mortality rate of any psychiatric
illness
•Suicide
rates for anorexia is 32 times HIGHER than average
•Mortality
rate for chronic anorexia is 15-20%.
